Adelaide University's award-winning Apprenticeship Program provides South Australian businesses with the opportunity to host Software Engineering apprentices who gain hands-on industry experience while completing their degrees.

This Australia-first program, supported by the South Australian Government, combines a Bachelor of Software Engineering (Honours) degree with paid, full-time employment.

Apprentices are employed by their host organisation from day one of their studies, applying classroom learning directly to the workplace. Apprentices graduate with a degree, five-years of software engineering experience, and a deep understanding of their employer’s business.

Why Employers Are Getting Involved

  • Secure talent early: Employers can attract high-calibre students before they enter the highly competitive graduate market.
  • Tailored training: With dedicated support from the University, you can help shape job-ready professionals, tailored to your business needs.
  • Higher retention rates: Similar programs overseas have shown excellent completion and post-graduation retention rates, helping companies reduce the costs of staff turnover.
  • A new recruitment pathway: The program widens access to individuals who might not have otherwise pursued university study, fostering diversity in the workplace.
