The Future Skills Organisation has launched a major update to the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Training Package, aiming to modernise qualifications and better align them with the evolving needs of Australia’s tech sector.

With over 1,500 vocational education training providers currently using the package, this initiative responds to urgent demand for specialist skills in areas such as artificial intelligence, cyber security, and cloud computing. The project will deliver new qualifications, units of competency, and skill sets that clearly distinguish generalist digital skills from specialist ICT streams. This work supports flexible, stackable training and aligns with national reforms to improve pathways between vocational and higher education. The project commenced in September 2025 and is scheduled to conclude in March 2028.

Industry leaders are invited to participate in shaping the future of ICT training through consultation and feedback. Expressions of Interest for membership on the ICT Technical Committee are also open from 8 October to 5 November 2025. To apply for the Technical Committee, complete the Expression of Interest form here

Key milestones for this project include the first draft of training products in May 2026, public consultation in November 2026 and March 2027, and final endorsement by the Skills Minister in January 2028.
