Degree and higher-level apprenticeships are starting to generate interest across the education and training sector. TAFE Centres of Excellence and many universities are exploring ways to implement models, including through the new Vocational Degrees.
The value is in the contextual learning it offers to apprentices. The apprentices are daily applying what they learn at university or TAFE, which helps to build understanding more quickly than just learning theory. For employers, they benefit by being able to shape an apprentice's learning by providing their workplace as the context.
By the time a degree apprentice graduates, they have years of work experience under their belt, know the organisation well, and know where they fit and where they might progress within the organisation. These people will prove to be far more productive than a recent graduate.
While the rewards are significant, the planning, governance and collaboration makes these initiatives complex to implement. The Ai Group Centre for Education and Training has broad experience and expertise in developing and implementing higher and degree apprenticeships in the Australian context. Some of the ways in which we have been able to help include:
Our expertise means we can assist organisations and education and training providers to design and implement higher and degree apprenticeship models in their specific context.
