The Australian Manufacturing Workers’ Union (AMWU), in partnership with Australian Industry Group and Tradeswomen Australia, is leading the Breaking Barriers: Women in Trades and Tech Project – a national initiative funded by the Commonwealth Government to increase women’s participation in engineering apprenticeships.

Partner businesses work with the AMWU, Australian Industry Group and Tradeswomen Australia to develop a Gender Equality Action Plan tailored to their workplace. The project budget also includes funding to cover the cost of approved training for your workers.

As part of the project, they are also running:

  • Site tours showcasing modern manufacturing
  • Try-a-trade events in partnership with TAFEs
  • Short courses in engineering

These activities will introduce women to the industry and generate a pool of motivated apprenticeship candidates, creating direct recruitment opportunities for participating businesses.

By becoming a partner, businesses will:

  • Identify practical actions to improve gender equality
  • Connect with women ready to start an apprenticeship
  • Showcase their workplace to potential future workers
