Following on from the release of the Australian Government's Migration Strategy last December, Jobs and Skills Australia has released the 2024 Core Skills Occupations List – Key Findings Report earlier this month after it conducted consultation with stakeholders this year, to which the Centre provided a submission.
The report recommends that 456 occupations be included in the Core Skills Occupations List (CSOL) for the employer-sponsored temporary Skills in Demand (SID) visa, which will replace the Temporary Skills Shortage (TSS) visa program in late 2024. The report also recommends that 16 other skilled occupations (OSO) be identified where there is currently insufficient data to determine whether they should be included or not. These occupations are mainly new or changed ANZSCO occupations, and stakeholder feedback on them was not compelling. Finally, the report recommends that 232 occupations be excluded from the CSOL. These occupations generally have a combination of poor migrant employment outcomes, poor future demand, poor employment outcomes for domestic graduates, and/or salaries below the Core Skills Stream Salary Threshold.
