The skills of the workforce are the backbone of businesses and the economy. The Centre undertakes high quality evidence-based research that identifies current skill needs and informs improvements in workforce capability.

In the midst of accelerating change, workforces must be capable of continuously adapting, operating in agile spaces and relating within cross-functional teams. Employers need to build new skills, manage differently, and have employees learn new tasks within roles or undertake completely new roles.

Key data are collected through our biennial skills survey of businesses that ask a broad range of skills, education and training related questions. This information assists the Centre in its role to advocate policies for education and training systems, and develop strategies, including upskilling initiatives, to meet the skills businesses need.
